The British Chambers of Commerce's Quarterly Economic Survey

The British Chambers of Commerce's Quarterly Economic Survey – the UK’s largest and longest-running independent business survey – was published this month and shows measures of business confidence and business conditions slightly improved in Q2 2024, albeit from a very low base. The Thames Valley report, which we were delighted to sponsor, has also been released and can be downloaded here.

We were also delighted to be involved in a discussion with Stuart Morrison, Research Manager at the British Chambers of Commerce and Tim Major, Senior Account Manager at Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce where we discussed the results from a national and local level. To listen to this discussion, please click here.

Thank you to all those businesses who completed the QES for this quarter - the Thames Valley report can be viewed below.

JCHR HR & Payroll outsourcing update – How will Labour’s employment law proposal impact UK employers?

The new Labour government first published their employment policy proposals in a Green Paper called a ‘New Deal for Working People’, and many of their pledges made worrying reading for UK employers – including day 1 unfair dismissal rights and sector by sector collective agreements.

As the months have gone by many pledges have been considerably watered-down to fit the narrative adopted in the election campaign which proclaimed Labour to be a ‘Party for business’There are however changes afoot, and JCHR’s Bill Larke has prepared a briefing for employers on the main changes they can expect from the new government. You can access this briefing along with articles on other key HR issues by clicking below.
