Changes to the Academy Trust Handbook 2025
The Academy Trust Handbook 2025, which is effective from 1 September 2025 has been released introducing several important updates. Trusts should understand and be working towards the six core digital and technology standards by 2030: - Broadband internet
- Network switching
- Wireless network
- Cyber security
- Filtering and monitoring
- Digital leadership and governance
| |
Cyber security threats are increasingly causing significant operational and financial disruption across the academy sector, primarily through attempts to access, alter, or destroy sensitive data. With growing public scrutiny over executive remuneration, Trusts must have a documented and evidenced-based pay policy to be able to justify salary levels and any additional benefits through clear governance and decision-making records.
Trusts must review their procurement processes to ensure value for money is being achieved through incorporating compliance with the Procurement Act 2003 and Find a Tender Service thresholds into the financial framework. Failure to obtain value for money would result in a regulatory breach.
Trusts with an annual income of over £50million (based on the latest audited accounts) must establish a dedicated audit and risk committee. All other Trusts must either maintain a separate committee or combine it with another committee, ensuring appropriate oversight is retained.
