Charities and the use of AI
Research published in the "Status of UK Fundraising: 2024 Benchmark Report" surveyed almost 850 professionals in the voluntary sector regarding their fundraising performance, income variations, and use of AI (artificial intelligence).
Key findings include:
- 42% of organisations using AI reported increased income, compared to 31% of those not using AI
- 57% of participants used AI, with 44% using it to create social media content
- Only 20% of AI users felt adequately resourced to explore AI, and just 12% said it was a priority for their organisation
| |
It's worth noting that only 5% of respondents had an AI policy in place, while 15% were in the process of developing one. This underscores the importance of AI policies in the voluntary sector, ensuring that AI is used responsibly and ethically.
Concerns about AI included misinformation (78%), data security (62%), reputational risk (59%), and bias (51%). Additionally, 27% of respondents were concerned about the impact of AI on job security.
Respondents suggested improving fundraising strategies through improved data management (60%), working with partners to reach new audiences (52%), multichannel communications (43%), and technology training (43%).
